Shocking to hear me say that, huh? And you don’t even know what I’m talking about yet. The thought occurred to me that this phrase and those like it have been demonized and are now attributed to have been said by male chauvinist pigs. In the modern world, women can do anything a man can do. But why is it so offensive to think that some jobs are the work of women? And similarly, some jobs are the work of men. That doesn’t mean that men and women can’t do each others jobs but certain jobs are usually gender dominated. The insinuation that jobs referred to as the work of women are somehow lowly and demeaning to women is insulting to all that do those jobs. Men clean houses, too. Perhaps the real key is in the tone of the phrase.
